Is it on your list?

Rest isn't really in my vocabulary. I suffer from FOMO and the need to achieve every single idea that pops in my head. Quite literally I have a plan and a back up plan to the back up plan, to reach my goals. Who can relate?

My boyfriend has a laugh because anytime people come to me for advice, my go to answer is,

"I want you to think really hard on exactly what you want."

(Pause for dramatic effect)

"Now work it backwards, step by step, so you have a plan and list of steps to reach your goal. Make a goal, make a list, attack."

On the Enneagram test, I am a 3, The Achiever. By definition, 3's are frequently hard working, competitive, and highly focused in the pursuit of their goals.

I admire others that are goal driven and stop at nothing to create the life they have always wanted. Those are the captivating stories everyone loves to hear about, the one movies are made of, books are written about, we all like to think we are living. I've always tried to follow in those footprints. I've only realized lately that those footprints were actually the trampled remains of my goals steam rolling me.

Amen, if that last statement made you feel personally attacked. If any of this relates to you, you're not alone. If you're in anyway like me, add this and add it frequently to your step by step list to success.

Rest.

It is so damn essential.

I get so much inspiration and energy from work. I 100% LOVE what I do. It fills my cup. My cup is typically overflowing, spilling everywhere, inspired frequently... until it's not.

Suddenly, I'm bone dry, exhausted, empty, struggling daily.

At least it used to appear to me that it was suddenly a drought. I would pass out for 14 hours straight, hit snooze 30 times and eat a pint of Graeter's ice cream in a single sitting. Then, I would look back and realize I haven't had a day to rest, to do absolutely nothing in 3 or 4 months. I've been slashing away at my list, bushwhacking through my to-do list like Peeta in Catching Fire, moments before he electrocutes himself on the force field. Fried, figuratively, mentally, physically, and quite literally for Peeta.

Rest.

Your goals will thank you for it.

So here's to keeping the cup full, goals accomplished, plenty of rest to sustain the badass you already are, and many more Hunger Games fandom references.

May the odds be ever in your favor.
